Enoteca Sileno is the trading name of L. Di Santo Pty Ltd, Australia’s oldest and most respected importer, distributor and wholesaler of authentic, artisan, Italian food and wine products. 

Founded in Melbourne in 1953 by Luigi Di Santo, entrepreneur and pioneer of the Italo-Australian community, the company has over the years been entrusted as the Australian home of some of the great gastronomic brands of Italy, as well as many artisan producers of note. 

Today, under the direction of Luigi’s daughter Rosemary, her husband John Portelli, and a dedicated, passionate team, Enoteca Sileno continues to set the standard for the distribution of Italian food and wine in Australia.

In addition to the Import Office and Wholesale Division, the business also includes a Retail Showroom, Italian Wine Education Classes and Scuola di Cucina Cooking School.  

Enoteca Sileno has distributors throughout Australia and New Zealand, all of whom share our passion for delivering quality Italian food and wine to both hospitality professionals and home cooks.

 The Enoteca Sileno Portfolio

Extra virgin olive oil, Parmigiano cheese, durum wheat pasta, balsamic vinegar and espresso coffee, foods that have become every day pantry items for us were hardly known in Australia when Gino Di Santo commenced his importation business over 60 years ago.

At Enoteca Sileno we are proud of each and every product and producer we represent. Each of them has met our high standard for authenticity and quality and have been identified as “benchmark products” within their category.

We enjoy close relationships with the wineries, farms, bakeries and various other small, mostly family-run companies we represent. Many of these friendships were formed by our founder, Gino Di Santo, many decades ago and we continue to have a warm and familial relationship with the next generation of artisans in the family.

Our growing range of regional specialties includes authentic pesto from Genova, hand-shaped orecchiette from Puglia, artisan slow-dried pasta from Abruzzo and Tuscany, polenta from Bergamo, ripe red Italian tinned tomatoes from Abruzzo, and sweet Sicilian sea salt. There are pasta sauces from Calabria, balsamic vinegars from Modena and Vialone Nano and Carnaroli rices from Verona.

Our extensive olive oil selection includes oils from all over Italy made from single olive varieties to blended varieties, cold pressed, free flowing, hand-picked and certified organic. Olives that are grown on the supplier’s land, and produced and bottled in the supplier’s own oil mill (frantoio).  

The portfolio of over 400 wines and distillates reflect the diversity of Italy’s wine producing regions. Our aim is to give the Australian consumer access to those wines that are authentic examples of regional styles, traditional production and indigenous grape varieties.  

The Enoteca Sileno name offers consumers our seal of approval and guarantee of quality. This reputation has been built on our commitment to ensure every product reaches our customers in the best condition. To achieve this, each step of the journey from Italy to your table, must show utmost respect for the product and the producer. This includes using refrigerated containers for at least 85% of our imports, including all wines and extra virgin olive oils, and warehousing in strictly temperature-controlled facilities.
