The Tedeschi family has been making wine for five generations since 1824 when Nicolò bought his first vineyards. In 1918, when the estate had passed into the hands of Riccardo Tedeschi, the growing area was expanded with the purchase of the Monte Fontana and Monte Olmi vineyards. For much of the 20th century, the business was managed by Riccardo’s sons, Silvino, who tended the vines and Renzo who made the wine.

Today, its Renzo’s children, Antoinetta, Sabrina and Riccardo who cultivate 67 hectares of vineyards in the Valpolicella Classico district, of which 22 hectares are owned and 45 hectares are rented. This is the area of Pedemonte (not to be confused with Piemonte), in the Veneto region. Verona is to the south and the Lessinia Mountains are in the north.

The Valpolicella Classico district is a series of three valleys, namely the Negrar, Marano and Fumane valleys. Rivers and streams (tributaries of the Adige river) run down the mountains and form the valleys. Tedeschi use indigenous varietals and produce typical styles of the area, including Amarone, Bardolino, Recioto and Valpolicella. In nearly two centuries, the family have become well known in the district for their passion and a certain level of eccentricity. The family aims to create wines which genuinely reflect the terroir and ambient of the Valpolicella zone.
