Description
Baladin's soft drinks, Cedrata, Spuma Nera, Ginger and Cola are based on four original recipes that, for creator Teo Musso, symbolize four 'historical tastes' of an Italian childhood.
For Cola, Baladin has gone back to the origin of the most famous of soft drinks. Cola is produced with Kola nuts a caffeine-containing nut of evergreen trees of the genus Cola, belonging to the same family as cacao and native to the tropical forests of West Africa. Baladin have use Kola nut from the Kola Slow Food Presidium in Sierra Leone and part of the revenues from sales of the Cola are donated to the Slow Food Foundation to support this project. Because this Cola is “the real thing” it has the natural occurring reddish colour, and the cola flavour is authentic and delicious.

"When Slow Food suggested making a drink using kola nuts, I accepted immediately with great enthusiasm. Baladin had been making natural soft drinks without preservatives and colourings for some years, and interpreting the world's most famous soda was a challenge I couldn't refuse. Plus there's the added value of Cola Baladin supporting important Slow Food Foundation projects, helping the kola growers in Sierra Leone and the Thousand Gardens in Africa project. So I created a recipe that allowed me to interpret the classic cola flavour according to my own personal taste, of course using only ingredients of the highest quality. I didn't use any acidifiers, apart from a natural one derived from lemon juice, and I didn't add any colouring. I'm proud that we've differentiated ourselves so clearly from the industrial version with the colour. Our cola is amaranth, the colour of the fruit itself."
